GENERAL SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Registered Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse for our Crisis Services, 23 Hour Crisis Stabilization program will provide nursing services which includes assessment, treatment planning, medical care and education to individuals experiencing a current behavioral health crisis. The RN/LPN will work with a multi-disciplinary team of licensed mental health professional team to determine client care. The RN will provide direct nursing care to the clients we support. The RN/LPN will be responsible for carrying out treatment and supportive care as directed by the Program Director and their designees, according to program design and best practices.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Assess and document individuals’ level of functioning, health status, mental status, medical history, medications, medication compliance, and response to treatment
- Educate individuals receiving services about mental illness and substance use disorder, participate in the development of treatment plans, crisis plans, and discharge plans
- Ensure that people who need a higher level or different level of care are referred or placed
- Monitor individuals who are receiving services to ensure their health and safety
- Carry out functions including crisis intervention, assessment of vital signs, referral for emergency medical treatment as necessary, observation of individual response to medication and treatment, following detoxification protocols, nursing assessment, treatment planning, crisis and aftercare planning
- Attend and actively participate in meetings and training as required. Maintain certification in all agency, state and federal training requirements. Demonstrate knowledge of and comply with all agency policies and procedures, as well as, state and federal statutes and regulations related to specific program areas
- Demonstrate knowledge of emergency procedures and assist in crisis situations
- Complete all other relevant responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor
- Make responsible referral decisions based on diagnosis, the needs and strengths of the client
- Provide Gateway with all relevant documentation in a timely manner to complete appropriate billing of services
- Document nursing activities in the individual’s electronic record, and keep all records up-to-date according to established policies/procedures
- Attend and participate in meetings such as clinical staffings, business meetings, and nurses’ meetings
- Maintains strictest confidentiality
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of psychiatric disorders and substance abuse disorders
- Experience in detox/substance use services
- Knowledge of broad range of treatment modalities
- Skills in diagnostic and statistical techniques
- Knowledge of personality and /or behavior theory
- Skills in recording, interviewing, assessing, decision making, and treatment planning
- Knowledge of psychotropic and medication assisted treatment medications, indications, and contraindications
- Knowledge and skill in laboratory testing
- Exhibits supervisory skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of the principles, procedures, and best practices in Community Mental Health along with an intimate knowledge of Virginia DBHDS regulations and HIPPA requirements
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and related software
- Current CPR Certification and First Aid Certification Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to details
EDUCATION, LICENSURE, AND EXPERIENCE
- Graduate in nursing from an accredited college/university with Boards (Virginia or multi-state) within ninety (90) days of graduation
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred
